New dyad pairs

Brand new to the shop - dyad colorways! Two 180 yard skeins perfect for stripes or colorwork. All dyed up in 5 different colors so avoid spillage into the solid. Knit on!

Happy stripes

After injuring my back on Sunday - I've had quite a bit of time to knit. After finishing up my caterpillar socks with a cute feather and fan edge I got to work on my new stripey sock yarn. I'm doing a SS solid stripe with a single repeat of an arrowhead lace pattern in the multi yarn. I love the texture the lace adds and how it squishes up on my foot. =)

When pain killers negated lace, this not-so-little chicken in brainless SS fit the bill. Now if I can just get un-crooked so I can skein my brand new sock yarn. I can't wait - its so wonderful!

Cherry harvest

The first year we lived here we got 6 cherries. And then 12. And last year, I think we were up to a pint bag worth. But last night we picked a large colanders worth with many left at bird height. I 'bloodied' myself pitting them all - looked like a bad gore fest. Then poured a simple syrup over the lot and popped them away to top the next batch of ice cream. Now if I can just keep the boy out of the raspberries maybe I can squeeze out a pint of jam. =)

Sock quicky

A handful of new semi-solid DK skeins to feed your quick sock fix. Enjoy! =)

Radishes

My first crop from the garden. A nice juicy handful of sinfully spicy radishes. These are the french breakfast variety - they're supposed to grow long and almost carrot like. And I guess they are great for relish trays. What ever that is. =)

Pete's Wicked Strawberry Blonde Ale Clone

In an attempt to make a summer beer and take advantage of the local strawberry crop I brewed up this little recipe that I found at Homebrewtalk. And so far its wicked tasty.

Pete's Wicked Strawberry Blonde Ale clone
Recipe Type: All Grain
Yeast: Wyeast Labs #1272 (American Ale II )
Boiling Time (Minutes): 60
Primary Fermentation (# of Days & Temp): 7
Secondary Fermentation (# of Days & Temp): 14

8.00 lb Pale Malt (2 Row) US
1.50 lb Wheat Malt, Bel
0.50 lb Caramel/Crystal Malt - 20L
0.75 oz Cluster (50 min) Hops
0.50 oz Tettnang (5 min) Hops

Single infusion mash at 153 F for 60 minutes.

Strawberries: Heat 7# of frozen strawberries to 160F for 20 mins. Bring to room temp, place in secondary, and rack from primary.

I made several horrendous mistakes. I forgot to take hydrometer readings at every stage. I forgot to prime. And the beer still had a few strawberry chunks that made their way into the bottles. But it was really good just out of the secondary so I have high hopes that it will be even better after a nice rest. Just in time for fall. =)

Winging it

The caterpillar socks are almost complete. Just looking for a 'butterfly' cuff - input welcomed. Now if I can get them done in time for the SKA June deadline. With the kids home and Sock Summit around the corner I've been favoring stitch patterns that only barely require me to pay attention. This open twisted rib has fit the bill. And Wendy's gusset on the bottom of the heel worked out beautifully again. I had to tweak the numbers since this is DK weight, but it wasn't too bad. And next time I'll use markers for the heel/gusset increases, I think that could make it even more brainless. =)
